Page 9 - Sandy's Experience PROMO A Supportive Parental Tool to Protect Children from Sexual Assault
P. 9
As such, Sandy’s Experience, through Mrs. Pleasant’s character,
promises to give educators a possible preventative approach.
You may agree that access to the Internet has changed the
world. In fact, almost 20 years ago, before the widespread use
of the Internet, including social media, I did my M.Ed research
at 5 secondary schools. The data collection included showing a
video of five young people who contracted HIV in their early
teenage years. So, I question: in our current social media reality
when should we talk to children about sex and sexual assault
prevention and who should speak to them about these topics?
As such, I offer Sandy’s Experience to give parents,
educators, children, and others an advantage in discussing the
difficult topic of sexual assault prevention so that collectively
we could make this world a safer place. A place where our
children can develop without having to live with the traumatic
aftermath of child sexual assault.
