discuss sex and sexual assault prevention with the children who
are in our care. You might even be amazed at the interest and
questions that this story generates from your children. The story
also avoids any inappropriate situations and it is set in a familiar
school/home environment.
As a school counsellor, I have used a very vague version of
this story in whole class sessions, allowing the children to take
turns to read different parts of the story, and without fail, there
was always rapt attention and plenty of questions. So, although
this story is fictional, the children’s responses could testify to its
value as a teaching tool to help with their protection from sexual
assault.
The vivid narrative also helps to fix in our minds some of
the child grooming signs that we and our children should be
aware of and because we don't know everything, the resources
encourage us to find the answers to our children's unique
questions.
