There is a small click and a glass lamp hanging from a thick brown wire in
the middle of the hallway, with a flat round glass plate at the bottom in beige and
brownish shades are lit. Mitchel exclaims.
"It was incredible though, there is still power in the building" Instead of
answering him, Karin holds up her index finger to her mouth, looks at him with
pursed eyebrows and says
“Shhhh, listen” You both hear it, but still it seems unreal, You both go out
on the stairs, Mitchel looks at her wonderingly, With a serious face she takes her
index finger up to her mouth again.
“Shh, listen” She says subdued. Somewhere in the house he cannot imme-
diately locate, a faint sob is heard from a woman.
"No, no, no we have not done anything" Sounds it. They look alternately
up and down the staircase but they can not locate where the sound is coming
from .Then it sounds again.
"No, no we have not done anything" Complains woman voice, silence. As
petrified Mitchel stares at Karin, he gets to emanate one.
"There must be someone here somewhere.”
The staircase as a whole is like the back stairs relatively nice, except for a thick
layer of dust and the places where the dark brown linoleum is worn off to the
stairs bare wood and concrete here and there are bags with rubbish the staircase
window frames hang and are destroyed with smashed windows and boards for
that partially cover the holes. They both hear it, the sound of stepping feet on the
stairs as if a group of people with big heavy boots or shoes are on their way up at
high speed up the stairs, as if knocking on a wall, furniture being moved around
quickly, tumult, a scream, rumbling voices, more tumult, screams, crying blows
against a human body .Then it sounds like a human being being dragged down
the stairs, or like children doing for fun cures down stairs on the ass, then si-
lence.
“LOOK!" She says, pointing to a spot on the repo. Mitchel looks at the spot
where she is pointing.
"It looks like clotted blood" Clearly shaken, she continues. “Fuck…”
They both sit down to study the blood stain.
