               Schmidt Hall Renovations
Bernardon is providing architecture and interior
design services for proposed renovations to improve
aesthetics throughout the first floor student common
area to enhance the resident experience and complement
similar amenities in other residence halls. Exterior
renovations include improvements to the entry sequence
to provide modest entrance canopies, accessible
vestibules, and more secure access to the residence hall.
The contemporary design language of these additions
complements the dated formality of the legacy “dorm”.
Renovations include a new addition to accommodate
the Resident Director’s office and a Graduate Assistant’s
office. A highly visible and welcoming student reception
function will be relocated to be on axis with the primary
entrance. The refreshing improvements to the student
lounge include active and passive areas to support the
various demands of student life on campus. The design
includes an open concept design that encourages
socialization and activity in this important student
amenity. Single-use toilet rooms will replace the non-
accessible toilet rooms of the original building design.
