SKILLS AND TRAINING NEEDS OF EMPLOYEES OF A RURAL BANK IN
                           INTEGRATED CORE BANKING SYSTEM
                                   ROCHELLE R. CASTRO

This study involved 52 respondent-employees of the Rural Bank of Rosario (L.U.), Inc.
in Integrated Core Banking System during the year 2015. The study aimed to determine the
levels of skills of the respondent-employees in the different skills areas, and hence their training
needs. Specifically, problem No.1 focused on the distribution of the respondents across the
profile variables. Problem No. 2 determined the levels of skills of the respondents in the different
skills areas, namely: fund generation, loan management, and general accounting. Problem
No. 3 determined whether or not there are significant differences in the levels of skills of the
respondents in the different areas. Finally, Problem No. 4 determined whether or not there
significant relationships between the levels of skills of the respondent- employees in the different
skills areas, and the profile variables.
The following are the salient findings of this study: Majority of the respondents were
females, who have commerce, banking, or accounting as educational background, relatively new
as employees. The respondents obtained weighted means in the different skills areas, equivalent
to “Moderately Skilled” in descriptive rating. There are significant differences in the levels of skills
of the respondents in the different skills areas, with respect to the variables, age and sex, in the
area of loan management, and in the combined skills areas, but not in the other skills areas.
There are significant relationships between the levels of skills of the respondent- employees in
the different skills areas, and the variables, namely: age and sex, and in the combined skills
        areas.
The following are the conclusions drawn from the findings of this study: The
respondent- employees could be characterized as typical employees in the banking industry,
being young, newly employed. This could mean that there is a very fast turn-over among the
employees. The respondent- employees are moderately skilled in the different skill areas related
to banking procedures. Age and Sex are the variables that could differentiate the levels of skills
of the respondent-employees in the different skills areas. Age and sex are the variables that
are associated with the levels of skills of the respondent- employees in the different skills areas
related to the procedures in banking.
The following recommendations are forwarded:Incentives which could serve to motivate
the employees, both internally and externally, to stay and serve, for a longer tenure, are strongly
recommended.More in-service trainings should be developed and implemented to enhance the
level of skills of the employees in the different skills areas. New employees should be recruited
from applicants with other educational background, provided they possess the positive attitude
towards work and the willingness to face up to challenges in the work place.
