     Spell Bee Competition

The Collaborate team recently organized a Spell-
Bee competition as part of its Literary Club. The
event was interesting and was one of the first of its
kind. I participated in it as well. The contest re-
quired a team of 4 participants and the event it-
self consisted of 3 rounds. There was a total of 12
teams that participated, and there was huge ex-
     citement amongst the participants.
The first round was an elimination round. It was
a simple “Spell-the-word” round, where the team
members needed to pick a chit that contained a
word. The anchor would pronounce the word, and
the participants would have to spell them one-by-
one. The total time allotted for each team was 1
minute in which the teams had to spell as many
words as they could. In this round, 5 points were
awarded for each correctly spelt word. This time
constraint upped the ante, as the teams wanted to
squeeze any words as they could to avoid elimina-
tion. Finally, there were 3 teams that were elimi-
                    th
nated, and the 4 eliminated team was decided by
     way of a tie-breaker.
With 8 teams remaining, the contest moved to the
next round which was particularly challenging.
Each team was given a word which was to be
spelt first. Once it was correctly spelt, the team
was given a chance to write synonyms and anto-
     nyms for that word.
