Good Gigs Program-2016

Good Gigs is a unique leadership development opportunity for people to learn and grow
through immersive service with a small, diverse and cross-functional team of VMware colleagues. In
today’s fast changing world, leaders are needed to lead through VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexi-
ty, and ambiguity). Good Gigs provides the environment to build that leadership mindset.
The Leadership Mindset is reflected in three
steps and is applicable in our everyday lives.
1.) SERVE: Start with Why [Sept 27 – Nov
            4th]

      2.) LEARN: Engage & Connect [Nov 5 – 20 ]
3.) INSPIRE: Put into Practice [December
            2016 onwards]

      Who did we Serve?
The Good Gigs team partnered with LEAP 1
School, which is located in Langa, a township
near Cape Town, South Africa. LEAP Science and Maths School is a pioneer in providing quality edu-
      cation to underserved youth.
LEAP schools believe in developing students’ character and intellect, and have a 96% Grade 12 exami-
nation pass rate (national average is 70%). They believe that social transformation starts with personal
transformation hence they focus on both—personal and emotional growth of the students. The Stu-
dents are so matured that even at that tender age they not only think of their personal growth but also
continuously look for opportunities for the betterment of their country and their countrymen.
      How did we contribute?
 We from VMware conducted IT assessment to improve LEAP’s IT infrastructure
 Created integrated, reusable, and extensible solution configured based on LEAP’s needs and con-
          straints
 Delivered Teacher Technology Workshop to inspire technology in the classroom.
I had opportunity to work with Dawn Kwan, Ben Sier, Sindy Braun, Megumi Kato, Mariana
Ramirez, Rajesh Singh, Aram Kalantaryan, Mary Nakahara, Terri Frohmiller, Kevin Tebear, Guru-
      raj Krishnamurthy, & Jessamine Chin.

Students were happy to see the change. With technology, classes are much more interactive and excit-
ing. The young IT superstars were all geared up to support their teachers, and helped setup the IT in-
