           features of the city
municipal chamber. It is neo-classical in
design. Although the building is more than

       primary layout are retained.

       Ruins of St. Paul

Ruins of St. Paul is one of the symbol of
Macau. This symbolic the culture of Macau

in religious aspect. St. Paul was the first
western-university in far East. It was built in

1602-1640 while destroyed by fire in 1835.
The St. Paul presents the combination of
East and West. In terms of the decoration,

although St. Paul is a building with Western
       style, several Chinese characters as

decoration can be find. For example, “鬼是
誘人為惡” (Ghosts lead people to devil).
Apart form the decoration, the name of the

       building also shows the connection
between East and West. The Chinese name

of the ruin is 大三巴牌坊. The Paifang
actually is a special feature of traditional

       Chinese architecture. The appearance of
the St.Paul also looks similar to the Paifang.

It is fair to say the Ruins of St Paul not only
shows the religion of Macau people in the
past, it also reveals the combination of East

and West. Tourist may have new
