36. Ninety per cent of the respondents to the survey indicated that the requirements for the
Production Papers should remain as they are in the existing syllabus. The remaining ten per cent felt that
the Production Papers should have a written component. The Committee reviewed the suggestions from
the teachers but recommended a reduction in the number of Production Papers in light of the fact that a
Multiple Choice paper was being added.
37. The Review Committee, with the guidance of the Assistant Registrar/EDPD, reviewed the format
of the examinations for the syllabus and recommended the following changes after extensive discussion.
(a) In keeping with the policy of the Council for all Paper 01 to have only Multiple-Choice
Items, Paper 01 will now comprise 60 Multiple-Choice items. Ten items will be based on
areas of the syllabus which are common/generic to all Expressive Forms while the
remaining 50 items will be based on the Expressive Forms chosen by the candidate. There
will be 25 items per Expressive form chosen.
(b) The addition of the Multiple-Choice Paper also resulted in the need to recommend
further amendments to the Format and Structure of the Examination. The amendments
that are being proposed by the Review Committee are in response to the concerns raised
about over assessment, the cognitive demands and over all duration of the examination.
The Review Committee is proposing that the Production Papers should be reduced from
two papers to a single paper. The Review Committee also proposed that the Reflective
Journal be added and assessed as a part of the School-Based Assessment and that the
requirements of the Reflective Journal should be reduced from five pieces per Expressive
Form to two pieces per Expressive Form. Despite the addition of a Multiple-Choice Paper,
the number of papers that will be used to assess the Syllabus remains the same. The
proposed changes are presented on the Table below:
