content, skills and Specific Objectives of the Syllabus. The instructions for Certification in the Syllabus
were re-written to include the following:
The School-Based Assessment component for this syllabus is aligned to selected units within the regional
qualification of the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ). Through this integration, once all
requirements for issuing the CVQ are met, every student with acceptable grades will receive a Statement
of Competence to recognise their competencies in selected units (as detailed in Appendix 1) from the Level
1 Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) in:
(a) Photography - Level 1 (CCAVPH1002);
(b) Printing and Graphic Arts – Computer Graphic Arts (CCPGG10205);
(c) Fabric Design (CCPSFD1004); or,
(d) Art and Craft Production - (Textile/Fibre) (CCECC10904).
The decisions to award competencies will be based on the quality and relevance of the pieces of evidence
presented for the occupational area.
SUMMARY OF PROPOSALS
39. Having reviewed the Technical Report of the EDPD, the report from the Chief Examiner, and
having deliberated on the concerns of teachers, and of the participants in the needs assessment exercises,
the Review Committee for the CSEC® Visual Arts Syllabus proposed the amendments summarised below.
(a) Revision of the Rationale, Aims, General Objectives.
(b) Clarification and elaboration of Specific Objectives and Content.
(c) Re-organisation of the syllabus document in keeping with the policies of the Council with
respect to Syllabus development.
(d) Addition of Digital Photography to Graphic and Communication Design and the renaming
of that Expressive Form to Digital Photography and Visual Communication.
(e) Renaming of Fibre and Decorative Arts Expressive Form to Fibre and Decorative Product
Design as this name is more reflective of the requirements of the Expressive Form which
is in the syllabus.
(f) Addition of a Drawing component to each Expressive Form.
(g) Revision of the guidelines provided to teachers to include Suggested Teaching and
Learning Activities in each section of the syllabus to help teachers cater to the different
learning styles and to stimulate and maintain interest in the subject area.
(h) Revision of the list of Resources to include current print and electronic sources.
(i) Revision of the Format and Structure of the Examination to facilitate:
(i) Paper 01 to be changed to reflect the Multiple Choice format in keeping with the
policy of the Council.
(ii) The number of Production Papers to be reduced from two to one.
