The Donkey in the Tree
Wail was sad and lonely because the cruel
zookeeper had moved him away from the other
animals and locked him in a cage. Everyday, Wail
dreamt about being free from the zookeeper and
living happily somewhere else.
“Get up you lazy donkey!” shouted the zookeeper
as he threw a bucket of ice cold water on Wail.
Wail jumped to his feet angrily. The zookeeper
ran out of the cage and locked the gate quickly
and started jiggling the keys and asking Wail if he
wanted them.
This time, Wail had had enough! He was going to
get out of this zoo! He wanted a new home!
He decided he was going to escape.
Everyday he watched what the zookeepers did
and took notes. He made plan after plan.
Finally, he heard something that made his plan to
escape seem easier.
