The Donkey in the Tree

BOOM! CRASH! BOOM! went the cage door as

Wail barged outside.

Wail escaped by jumping over the first low fence

he saw. He landed on the main road and rolled a

few times. He opened his eyes, shook his head, and

stood up. He looked around to make sure no one
had seen him then took off running down the road.

He was free!

The next day, the head zookeeper was on the news

saying that a donkey was missing from the zoo and
that people’s yards and other zoos were being

searched.

Meanwhile, Wail was walking in the forest feeling

like he had died and gone to donkey heaven.
He tasted many different fruits and, while some

were sweet and juicy, others were sour. He saw

many different animals and stopped to talk and

play with many of them. It was good to have

company again.
