A Bend in the Road
I breathed a sigh of relief when I was safely in front
of the hall. I got my results and stepped out of the
hall, embracing the printed piece of paper like a
newborn baby.
When I handed my mother the paper, her
expression quickly changed from a dejected,
sorrowful face to an excited, jubilant one. I knew
something was wrong but I just did not know what.
I snatched the paper from her hands and examined
it carefully. To my amazement, the paper was filled
with “As” and “Bs”. I stared at the paper in
disbelief.
Not only did I pass, but I had topped the school!
“OH MY GOSH!” was all that I could say. Still
stunned by what I saw, I returned the paper to my
mother and started to scream and shriek. Tears
came rolling down my mother’s face like raindrops
on a windscreen. I wouldn’t trade the joy and pride
I felt deep inside my heart for anything in the
world.
