A Bend in the Road

She told me everyday before I left for school to do
my best, but, of course, her words had no effect
on my stubborn mind. She was my mom.

When it was time to sit the exam, I remembered
all what she had told me and I tried to remember
what my teachers had taught me throughout my
seven years at the school. Obviously I could not
remember everything but I tried, and even if I
never paid attention in class, I heard everything
my teachers had said and, surprisingly, it all
stayed fresh in my head. I was going to do my
best just as my mother had said to do. I prayed to
God for strength, guidance and knowledge, so
that I would be able to proceed with my exams.
What would be my fate if I did not ace this exam?
I had not thought of all this when I was ‘having
fun’.

I suddenly became conscious of the fact that I was
still in the assembly hall at my school and not at
the Micoud Secondary School, sitting an exam.
