CARIBBEAN EXAMINATIONS COUNCIL ANNUAL REPORT 2020
Introduction
Registrar’s Review
Welcome to the CXC® 2020
annual report
The year 2020, ascribed as the year of vision, saw the
Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC®) embarking on the
development of its five-year strategic plan for the period
2021-2025. The process started with a number of crucial
consultations with key stakeholders such as Ministers of
Education, senior ministry of education officials, students,
parents, teachers, tertiary institutions, partners, unions and
staff. The development activities culminated in the strategic
plan being presented and approved by the Council at its 55th
Meeting on 2 December 2020.
As CXC® continues to facilitate and embrace regional
integration, accommodation was afforded, in January to form
five students from the Belmont Secondary School in Trinidad
and Tobago, where they received an inside glimpse of the
workings of the organisation. The students, who ranged in age
between 16 and 18, were on a tour of various institutions based
in Barbados, to gain a greater appreciation and better working
knowledge of regional integration.
CXC® also had the privilege of hosting the launch of the
Caribbean Community Administrative Tribunal (CCAT) in
February, at a ceremony at our Headquarters in Barbados.
We were also pleased to receive the announcement that Ms
Dionne Hunte, Graphic Illustrator and Typist at CXC® was the
winner of the CCAT logo competition. Ms Hunte was presented
with the winning prize for her design during the unveiling of
the CCAT logo at the launch ceremony.
The onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic in the Caribbean
in March 2020, derailed further plans to hold face-to-face
consultations with stakeholders from other countries and
severely disrupted the education system across the region.
