                      In the case of piece-goods, cottons, the reduction is very noticeable. These mainly come from
                   Japan; and here the main reasons for the reduction arc (i) increased costs, and (jj reduced
                   exports from Bahrain. It is more than probable that this reduction will continue.
                      Another factor, covering the whole position, is that fluctuating prices at source have made
                   Bahrain purchasers wisely reluctant to commit themselves to large stocks for which the sale is
                   uncertain.
                      Further to explain this position, it is well to compare the average annual unit values of
                   principal commodities: —

                      I again submit the suggestion of local registration with legal sanction of trade marks and
                   designs; as instances have occurred where. British designs have been copied by Japanese factories
                   for the local market, a dishonest trick which involves some importers in a loss, for which at
                   present they appear to have no remedy. This cannot but affect the. quantity of Manchester piece
                   goods which might be imported here.
