One of the injurious actions which was done by Major Daly was
the establishment of the Persian Police and his entrusting the
Municipal affairs of an Arabic town to a Persian man. V/e
raised and argued and sent petitions after petition to Shaikh*
Isa who was representing them to him but they were of no avail.
In the month of Kamazan a simple dispute occurred between a
Persian and a i’iajdi and tho result was that tho policeman and the
man who was in charge of the Municipality affairs in view of
their partiality !*o their own nationality incited the Persians to
fire. The duty of the Policeman was to separate the disputing
parties and make enquiries into the matter, but tho national
fanaticism surpassed and instead of carrying out thoir duty they
resolved to convert tho simple dispute’to a bloody riot from which
it became certain What v/e had expected and what we had warned him#
Threo days after Colonel Knox attended with x 2 British Ships. We
oxpectod goodnoss and withdrawal from the injurious policy, but
he astonished and bewildered our minds as we saw that ho asked
Shaikh Isa to abdicate. Tni3 is a strange matter. Is this tho
end of British friendship ? »7e do not agreo as our Shaikh, Isa
does not agree. uo assembled and made agreement but tho Colonel
and tho Major ignored our existence altogether and began to
threaten us and tho ships to throw their search ligjit on tho
city at night as a warrant for danger if we did not agreo to this
persecution. Within two days they induced Shaikh Hamad by evory •
terror and threat to take over charge of the affairs in the
