Reaction to the reforms, 1923 161

plaoo of his fathor and wroto to Shaikh Isa to withdraw from tho
affairs of his country. Thon Major Daly attendod to tho Custcms
oollootod tho rocoipts and put it in tho British Bank. Ho wont
to tho local courts and closed than and oponod ono Court.
Complaints and petitions have to bo submitted to that Court but it
tokos a long time to deal with them oven if they may bo criminal
or Kg prgont. Ho placed himself in this Court with Shaikh Hamad
and by this he ended tho existence of a local Government. He did all
theso without taking us to account as if we wore not the residents
of this city. Does Groat Britain agreo that her Political
Agent trample on the respect of a peaceful nation which did not
adopt towards Great Britain any attitude except friendship at a
time when sho endeavours to afford assistance to the Arab nation ?
Oh Honourable Sir ! One of the incidents which agitated
tho thoughts and wounded tho public affections was tho arrest cif
our brother, Ahmad'ben Abdollah Doseri, in a horrible manner.
A steamer was sent to tho pearl banks to bring' him and when ho
came to know that the steamer had left for him he crmie himself
and on his arrival an order was issued without investigation for
his imprisonment and payment of a fine of iis.l5,0u0/~ and that ho
should confess that he had committod a fault. He refused and re
mained in prison for a long time. By threatening him, and his
tribe that if he doos not pay and does not confess, the ship
would bombard their town by shell fire and demolish it, he
applied and asked that his fault may ba told to him or his case
may be investigated like ev'Ty accused man, but no reply was given
to him. ’.Then he understood that he had determined not to confess
they took a fine of Us.16000 from him and released him. Undoubtedly
that is an interference the like of which has not been seen in
rocent history and wo have neither hoard of a similar ono in our
relations with tho British Government nor in the relations of tho
Political Agents with others kix$ us^

Oh Hon1 bio Sir ! We write to you this and all of us hopo
that tho affairs may bo returned to tho rightful party and our
