١n 167 the East lndia ompany moved its headquarters rom Surat to
Bombay where it was given authority to maintain troops.

n 12٣ April 176 the East lndia company concluded an agreement with the
Sheik o Bushire. hree months later this was conirmed by Karim Khan
2and s irman. Ater si years 1769 Bushire was abandoned because o
deteiroraiton o trade but was reestablished in 1775 ١٦ 177 the company
coutr o directors ordered that the sta o Basra should be withdrawn and
sent to Bushire. Unitl 177 the resident at Bushire was immediately
responsible to the agent and council at Basra 177-17. he resident was
in direct contact with Bombay overnment.
