                                       CUSTOMS DEPARTMENT.
[Report by Mr. G. W. R. Smith, Director of Customs and Port Officer.)

The revenue collected by the Customs Department from all sources including boat licences,
exceeded last year’s revenue by Rs. 4,07,461, and exceeded the amount which was anticipated in the
budget by Rs. 8,78,298. The increased revenue may be attributed to a slight increase in trade, the
steady flow of quota goods and large imports of all types of commodities from Persia and Africa.
Except in the case of piece-goods, there was no appreciable fall in prices.
