Water Distillation Plant. Naval Base Jufalr.—Owing to the partial closing of the Naval
Base, this plant which had supplied the Government requirements for distilled water since April
1946 was taken over in July on a lease of one year on a rental basis.
This was necessary, as the daily quantity of water required for generating plant, Hospital and
other domestic services could not be provided from any other source. The plant has been opera
ted and maintained by the State Engineer’s department, and in addition to supplying the above
requirements on a repayment basis, it has provided water for the Naval Base, and H.M.’s sloops in
the Gulf, free of charge. The waiving of charges for water supplied to the Royal Navy was a con-
ditional clause in the hiring agreement between the Admiralty and the Bahrain Government.
Electricity Charges.—Electricity Charges remained as for the previous year excepting in
the cases of owners of flour Mills who were given a reduction of As. 1 per unit.
It is not possible at present to consider any general reductions in addition to the above, as
generating costs have increased owing to distilled water costs. It is intended however to review
the situation when additional generating plant becomes available and generating costs have been
reduced by the use of water heat exchangers and a water distillation plant, now on order by the Govern
ment in England.
Building Extension.—Work completed consists of 7 Garages for Government M.T. vehicles,
Two Senior Staff residential quarters,
New Main Stores,
New Workshops for hand and machine tools.

Their present mechanical efficiency is no more than 45% of their rated capacity per set.
Distillation Plant.—An order has been placed for a plant of Ten Tons capacity
per 24 hours and it is due for shipment in March 1947. This plant will provide distilled water for the
