all remained valid for use in Dubai until June 1963 and, except the Rs2

                                   THE TRUCIAL STATES ISSUE

In anticipation of the probable establishment of postal services in
the other six States (Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Fujeira, Ras al Khaima, Sharjah
and Umm al Qiwain) the British Post Office commissioned a new issue
for general use throughout the Trucial States. In the ‘Persian Gulf Drawing
Book’ at the National Postal Museum there arc a number of original
                   designs in colour:
                                                        m.

                              Drawing 349 Drawing 350

These drawings must have been early rough work, for the title reads
‘Oman Coast Trucial States’ - whereas the issued stamps are inscribed
only ‘Trucial States’ in Arabic as in English. On Drawing 349 the word
‘Postage’ appears in English but not in Arabic; and on Drawing 346 the
denomination is ‘50 NP’ in English, but ‘50 Rupees’ in Arabic! For all
that, Drawing 346 is a compelling design and would have made a fine
                   stamp.
