                        R No 5430

A ‘Value Only’ Rs2 used in combination with “QATAR"
overprint and surcharge in October, 1960.
The 2 rupees, 5 rupees and 10 rupees were originally type-set
surcharged; but later in 1957 they all appeared plate-printed. The latter
arc much scarcer, the sale figure for the 10 rupees being as low as 3,580.
The “Weak Entry” on the basic stamp (Row 1/2) is known on both
printings of the 10 rupees; and on the plate-printed is an exceedingly
rare variety - for no more than 89 can exist.
In mid-1957, G.B. 3d. stamps surcharged “30 NP” and overprinted
“BAHRAIN” were supplied to Doha in place of similar stamps over
printed QATAR; the mistake was soon spotted and very few of the
                Bahrain stamps were used.
The Scout Jubilee Jamboree set was issued on August 1st, 1957,
with “QATAR” overprint and Nayc Paisc surcharges; and the following
year certain of the definitive overprints were reissued on Multicrown
paper. The numbers of the 3 NP, 6 NP, 9 NP and 12 NP overprinted
were very small, especially the 12 NP of which there were less than 100
sheets. These were the last British stamps overprinted for use in Qatar.
