It is interesting to follow the development of these designs through
to the final decisions regarding frames, inscriptions and styles of lettering.

                                                                       Issued
                                                                      stamps

Strangely enough, in view of all the preparatory design work, an
error of calligraphy crept into the Arabic in the upper panel of the 5, 15,
20 and 30 NP. Instead of diamond-shaped dots, as in the lower panel,
the two dots above “Q” of “QATAR” and below the “B” and “EE”
of “BAREED” (Postage) have commas on the issued stamps!
The issued Hawk design was not apparently considered satisfactory,
for there is a note in the National Postal Museum records that the 40 NP
and 50 NP should be replaced with designs as the four lower values,
the 40 NP in the same colour and the 50 NP to be changed to “Umber”
(sic) as the Trucial States 50 NP (bistre) of 1961. The proposed changes
never materialised; but there is no doubt that a better job could have
been made of the issued Hawk design.
