Throughout the period of British administration the Registration
Labels were of the standard G.P.O. type inscribed in English only —
“DOHA” (with or without suffixed number), “UMM SAID/PERSIAN
GULF" and, at Dukhan, “DOHA 1".

                           POSTAL INDEPENDENCE

The definitive set was the last British Agency issue and, on May
23rd, 1963, the Qatar Government took over the postal service. The
same definitives continued in use until October 1965; and, even as late
as October 1966, remainders were surcharged with values in the new
         currency.

Committee (the Arabic overprint reads “The Olympic Committee"),
and in November in commemoration of President Kennedy. In both
cases the values overprinted were the 50 NP and 75 NP and the 2 rupees
and 5 rupees; the 10 rupees was also overprinted and surcharge “Rl”.
Each issue was limited to 16,000 sets. One sheet of 50 (10 x 5) of the
the MR1 on 10 rupees Kennedy issue was found with the complete
overprint on only 13 stamps (Rows 3/1,4/1-4, 5/1—7 and 10) and
