Experienced Working with a Diversity of Groups—I have leveraged the expertise and
knowledge of the scientific and technical communities and articulated their work in a manner that the
public can understand in complex social and political environments. My diverse experience as a board
member, consultant, executive director and County Supervisor, and my personal work and family history
with diverse business and agricultural community that has provided me with the background to
successfully accomplish much. Some examples include: I helped start the farm family business board as
chairman for my wife’s Robert Young family vineyard and winery business and was named the friend of
the Sonoma County Farm Bureau, for my work to bridge the interests of the agricultural community with
               local government.

Collaborative and Participative but Assertive Management Style—My leadership can be best
described as collaborative, assertive, respectful and participative. Developing and keeping a strong
cooperative team can be achieved by building a strong team to accomplish organizational goals and
strategic plans. While Executive Director of the Bay Area Biosolids to Energy Coalition, we worked
together on innovative technology RFQ, legislative initiatives and regulatory issues to advance biosolids
               handling alternatives.

Association / Authority and Managerial Expertise – My role as a County Supervisor in
California, went beyond the typical policy making and into the managerial sphere. As co-CEO of the
County of Sonoma and its separate Water Agency, I oversaw its billion-dollar budget over a 16-year time
frame through various recessions including managing the myriad relationships between many elected
and appointed executives. As the Executive Director of the Bay Area Biosolids to Energy coalition, I built
relationships, worked with a 19-member board, staffed committees, and managed legal and lobbying
contracts. Then as Executive Director of CalDesal, I work with a 13-member executive committee, staff
committees, put on a yearly, two-day association conference, work with association management
company as well as other contractors serving the association and, I have been able to utilize my
management, leadership, decision-making, and negotiation skills that I will bring to any organization.
