Location
Madiba Comprehensive School is situated opposite Kagiso Secondary School they
are divided by Sebenzisa Street which is a busy road for taxis and cars going in or
out of the township. The proximity of the schools creates an academic excellence
competition, so the community acknowledges and tries to maintain the importance
and the mood the two schools exude in the community.
In addition, the school is surrounded by a local mechanic workshop, car wash and a
corner building with three shops which one becomes increasingly populated when
school is out with learners that smoke cigarettes, marijuana and this is done in
uniform just opposite the school which is very problematic for the learner’s health
and the image of the school. However, the diversity in the shops there means the
community promotes and encourages a level of entrepreneurial ethos or culture to
take place which be a motivating factor for the learners.
School Structure/Building
The school has Four 3 story buildings on each side of the area, 8 mobile classes, a
hall and a workshop that teaches engineering. The buildings serve as classrooms.
There are two different blocks in the yard at the entrance, one block serves as
administration and lastly it has a kitchen that caters as feeding scheme. The school
has a fully functioning lab room for students who are doing CAT as a subject. During
exams and test preparations there is no struggle, there are even printers for printing
and duplicating the papers to be enough for the learners.
The class I’m placed in is on the 3rd floor so learners tend to come a few seconds
late considering that they walk from one class to the other and they might meet other
learners along the way and tend to become playful. That is where the class will take
place. There are smart boards installed for use of PowerPoint and other digital uses
.The classroom is located not far from the sports ground and the netball court so
when they do physical activity it won’t be a problem in regards to moving from one
class to the other after coming from the sports ground.
