WHA T’ S HAPPENING ON SHIFT

Communication and direction is imperative for a smooth, successful service. A
shift plan enables clear, direct, organised communication between managers
and the team. It allows managers and shift supervisors to organise their goals for
the shift and ensure important information is not missed. A shift plan will be filled
out and used for every shift. All team members will ensure they arrive 10 minutes
prior to their rostered start time so they can check the shift plan and ask any
questions before beginning their shift.

Following a shift plan makes my job easier!

• It allows me to know exactly what is in store for the day.

• It tells me what station or section I am on for the shift.
• It tells me where my team mates will be stationed so I feel part of the team,
and I know the right person to see regarding each section.

• It gives me things to do before and after my shift so I can be prepared and I
don’t have to ask.

• It lets me know of any new products or items that may or may not be available,
allowing me to feel confident with my guests.

• It advises of events and exciting news making me proud of my work place and
enables me to talk about them with local guests.
• It lets me know about the goals and targets we are working towards and gives
me a sense of accomplishment.

• It advises of incentives and competitions that may be running.

• It gives me a run down of any special bookings or functions we may have for
the day so I feel confident and well informed.
