CHAIN AND CROWN SINNETS
2934. r 0 make a .t' ARALLEL CROWN SINNET by the helical method.
The upper drawing shows an outside circuit of the strands at
the upper edge of the sinnet. Take eight strands, extend two alter-
nate strands and hold the rest in the grasp of the hand. Move the
right member of the pair to the right, crossing one downhanging
strand, and extend the strand that was just crossed. Take the strand
that was the left-hand one of the original pair, pass it behind the
strand that was last extended and cross the next down hanging
strand. Extend the strand that was just crossed. Continue to work the
new pair just as the first pair was worked. The right member of the
pair is moved first and crosses the first adjacent downhanging strand,
the left strand is then passed in back of the newly extended strand
and continues until it has crossed over the_next adjacent downhang-
ing strand. Take care not to extend a strand that has just been turned
down.
2935. This sinnet is made with ten strands; in cross section it is
similar to ~ 2930, of eight strands, which does not helix. It is made in
exactly the same way as ~ 2934. The method may be used with
twelve strands, no core being required, but with fourteen strands
a core is indicated.
2936. A ROUND CROWN SINNET with two sets of strands. Make
with a total of either six or eight strands. Arrange the strands in two
_ eaual sets_and crown~he sets alternately to the ri!!ht. This makes a

firm and handsome sinnet. Tie knots in the ends of one set of strands,
for purposes of identification, extend one set and drop the other set
into the grasp of the hand. Crown the four uppermost strands. Then
lift the lower set of strands and crown them above the first knot.
Next arrange the lead of the first-made CROWN so that each end
passes inside two strands of the upper knot.
2937. With six or eight strands tie this knot the same as the fore-
going, except that the lead of the lower knot passes inside one strand
of the upper knot instead of two strands.
2938. A ROUND CROWN-AND-REVERSE SINNET with two sets of -
opposed strands. One set is crowned to the right and the other set
to the left. The lead in the lower CROWN is from one side to an ad-
joining side, not across the structure.
2939. A TWELVE-STRAND SINNET made with three sets of crowns,
which are crowned alternately right and left. As the number of
sets is odd, each set of strands is itself crowned alternately left and
right. Knot the ends of the strands of two of the sets differently
to assist in identification, an OVERHAND in one set, a FIGURE-EIGHT in
the other. Lift four bottom strands up to the left of the next oppos-
ing strands and crown them to the right, then lift the next four
bottom strands up to the right of the opposing strands and crown
them to the left. Continue alternating in the same manner. This
bulks lar er than ~ 2938 but has about the same characteristics. It
is large, rm and handsome.
