THE PSYCHOLOGY
OF IT ALL
Why am I putting the psychology of impromptu speaking
last?
Cause it happens to be the most important point I guess.
The number one issue most novice speakers have when it
comes to impromptu speaking, is the imaginary rejection
they assume they will receive as a result of not being
prepared.
Don't you just tell yourself the following,
"Gosh, I will look so stupid for saying things I've not
rehearsed."
"What if they know I was not prepared at all?"
"Being unprepared just heightens my incompetence."
But are these imaginary rejections substantiated?
I don't think so. Most people are receptive recipients when it
comes to unpredictability. The feeling of surprise oftentimes
is more exciting than the satisfaction of predictability.
Audience crave for the opportunity to be astounded by a
show of competence and flair. Especially if they know that it
was totally unrehearsed.
