Parkside Football Club 1897/2017
· Ahmed Taleb, who took Yarraville's top forward out of the game; and
· John Cuzzupe who, when the game was there to be won, really steadied the Parkside
defence.
Michael Frost, who had 22 kicks for the game and kicked four goals, was easily Yarraville's best.
Other Tigers to hold their own were Bill Asani, Paul Atkinson and John Bruzzanti .
No doubt the Magpies confidence is now sky-high but every game is different. Nonetheless after a
great display of power football Parkside would have to start favourites in this year's grand final.
On the other hand, Yarraville did suffer a similar fate in their first home-and-away game and were
able to come back
Parkside 22.16 (158) d Yarraville 9.11 (55).

Grand Final 1997
“After struggling against a determined Parkside for the first two quarters, Yarraville with just 17 men
on the ground - turned on a second half of brilliant football to win the 1997 premiership by 22 points
It was a coming of age for Yarraville, takin their first First Division flag for 33 years. The victory was
com plemented by a resounding win by their reserves who accounted for Parkside seconds to the
tune of 36 points, emphasizing the depth of talent at the club.
It was a wonderful coaching feat by Robert Smith, who was able to lift his charges to knock out Port
Colts in the preliminary final after the humiliating 83-point loss to Parkside in the second semi-final.
Injuries and the ordering-off of star forward Michael Frost on two striking charges had an oddly
therapeutic effect on the depleted Yarraville team.
Trailing by seven points at half time. they played like men possessed and went to a seven-goal lead
towards the end of the third quarter.
Parkside rallied before three-quarter time to whittle the lead a little, but Yarraville had their tails up.
In the final quarter they edged out to gain a seven-goal lead. but the gallant Parksiders again rallied;
their efforts were in vain. Yarraville more than held on to come out 22-point victors. The first quarter
opened with Parkside repeatedly attacking the Anderson Street end of the ground for almost 25
minutes before Yarraville recov-ered and showing greater accuracy than their opponents, kicked five
goals one behind for the term, against Parkside's two goals five.
Once a Parksider, Always a Parksider
