                                                 FDFL finals 1997 schedule

               Division 1 Seniors - Qualifying Final Parkside 9.9-63 d. Port Colts 7.4-46.

“PARKSIDE go on to the second semi final and once again face their main opponent for this seasons
flag in Yarraville for the right to advance into this seasons Footscray District Football League grand
               final.”

“Once again the old antagonists Parkside and Yarraville meet again in a grand final. No doubt
Yarraville will be keen to reverse the result of last season, but Parkside will be hard to beat.”

Parkside Football Club had qualified for their second consecutive grand final.

“Playing excellent football, Parkside blitzed a shell-shocked Yarraville by 83 points to win its way into
the FDFL's first division 1997 grand final and become a big chance for back-to-back premierships.

Kicking with a slight breeze, the Magpies opened up by running hard at the football and provoking
an evidently tired up Tigers into giving away two 50-metre penalties.

Parkside vice-captain Michael Cammerino hit the post from a long way out to give his team the first
score: Michael Frost was playing well for the Tigers and took a screamer to hold up a further Magpie
               attack.

Parkside broke through for a team-lifting goal by Craig Browne-Kerr and followed immediately with a
second major by Nick Hatzoglou. David Bongetti opened Yarraville's account after undisciplined play
up-field by the Magpies which resulted in a 50-metre penalty.
