Parkside Football Club 1897/2017
“Port Colts won the match of the round in the FDFL and kept their undefeated record intact with a
25-point home win over first division leaders Parkside in an awesome display of tough wet weather
football.
Many observers had not taken the Boroughs into premiership calculations, seeing it as a two-team
race with Parkside and Yarraville the favourites.
But the Boroughs, now second on the ladder must be seen as being well in the premiership race, on
their performances in their last two matches including their victory against an in-form Parkside.
With 14 points from four matches the Boroughs are off to a wonderful start.
On the other hand, Parkside are a very good combination and no doubt will come back to earth with
a jolt, which may not be a bad thing for them —they took all before them in the later part of last
season and, -the opening games this year.
Mark Spence constantly attacked up field from the back line when the result of the game was in the
balance as did Ricky Mantle who kicked a great team-lifting goal to be best on the ground with a
great team-lifting performance.”

Parkside’s best were: Davis, Taleb, O'Keefe, Cammerino and Burgess.

Parkside, Yarraville and Hoppers Crossing were separated only by percentage points at the top of the
FDFL first division ladder with four wins each, after the round four.
The match between Parkside and Spotswood was very competitive, with the Magpies leading by
seven goals at the main interval —the Woodsmen got back into their game after the
break, but were unable to defeat the Magpies because of irregularities on the field.

“Spotswood crashed to a sensational defeat against Parkside in the FDFL first division, when the
umpires wiped their score from the board after finding Spotswood had one player too many on the
field.
That followed an appeal by Parkside late in the last quarter, when Spotswood was trailing by 10
points - 11.13 (79) to 13.11 (89).
