Parkside Football Club 1897/2017
What happened at quarter time is anyone's guess, because after the first bounce in the second
quarter, the Magpies took over the game, kicking 18 goals to the Cats' five, eventually winning by 47
points; an amazing turnaround.
Parkside 20.12-132 d Albion 12.13-85.
Best for Parkside: Parkside - Browne-Kerr, Kelly, Cammerino (five goals) and O'Keefe. For Albion —
Shepperbottom, Clegg, Smerdon and Bajric .
Parkside and West Footscray were undefeated after the second round. Still playing at Yarraville,
there was a great anticipation of the third round match between Parkside and West Footscray.
***
Parkside had to pull out all the stops to keep their unbeaten record intact against West Footscray in
front of a finals' size crowd at FDFL headquarters on Anzac Day.
Before the game started, Parkside's strength was depleted with the loss of two top players in Cory
Klaaysen and Michael O'Keefe, both with hamstring injuries.
West Footscray was worse off with 15 injured players, and had to bring Cohn Dell out of retirement
to play on the back line with the reserves.
The first quarter opened with Ray Davis and John Cuzzupe doing well in the Magpie defence and
George Kotoski and Ashley Hervatin playing well on the forward line and giving their on-ballers a
focal point up front.
For the Roosters, Shaine Bray was doing well on the ball, while Jerome Currie, Barry Bourke and
Mark Goldie were playing strongly.
Twenty minutes into the third quarter saw the Roosters ahead by three points and the game in the
balance.
But the last quarter saw Parkside steady to win by three goals.
George Kotoski with seven goals proved a match-winner for the Magpies ¬a best-on-ground
performance.
Parkside 12.10-82 d. West Footscray 9.10-64
Best for Parkside were: Kotoski (seven goals, BOG), Taleb, Patterson, Calloway and Burgess.
