Parkside Football Club 1897/2017
The final scores were 14.12 (96) to one behind, giving Parkside victory by 95 points.
The general manager of the FDFL, Mr Russell Murphy, said he had discussed the incident with
Spotswood and the club, which in any case had no right of appeal, accepted the ruling.
Parkside called for a count of their opponents after a Spotswood player was sent off for an offence
and was therefore not eligible to he replaced, which should have left Spotswood with only 17
players.
The count showed Spotswood had 18 players on the field.
Mr. Murphy said Spotswood Officials claimed their player was bleeding from the nose when he was
sent off — they believed the umpires had exercised their power to send him off under the "blood
rule" and Spotswood replaced him in good faith.
The FDFL general manager said he could not remember a similar case in first division football.”
