Boom recruit kicks 8 for Parkside

                                                    By Michael Sinclair

Exciting Parkside recruit Brendon Bidwell is shaping as one of the most promising stars to hit the
Merv Hughes Oval in recent years.

You're asking Bid whom? That's right - Bidwell.

The newly-adopted favorite son impressed the Parkside faithful with a best-on-ground performance
of eight goals, as the under-dog Magpies surprised many with a two-goal win over Hoppers Crossing
               last weekend.

It was a big day for Bidwell, who pulled on the Magpies' guernsey for the first time after stints with
               East Perth and St Kilda.

And he has certainly earned the praises of first-year coach John Barbuto.

"For him to kick eight goals is very good - he's a very good footballer." he said.

And the vibes coming from the Magpie camp are more than positive when football is concerned,
               says Barbuto.

"When I first came hack here I thought that if we could get some numbers back at training we would
show some people that we were back on track," he said.

"When we have got our backs to the wall, Parkside come to the forefront. We stuck to a game plan
that was put in place last Thursday night (at training), and each player was addressed about their
               roles," Barbuto said.

And the Magpies definitely stuck to that game plan.

Western Region Football League Greg Karcoushkas held 1995 Liston Medallist Paul Satterley to a
handful of possessions, while Paul Chatterton and Michael Scott also had plenty of the football.

Barbuto also attributed a new player-rotation system, in which his side sees more players off and on
               the bench, to the win.

"Results are starting to come because blokes are starting to believe in the different style that I'm
coaching as far as rotating blokes off the bench every week," he said.

None were more pleased with the Magpies' win than club president, Rod O'Connor.
