In round four, the Roosters’ first-year recruit Mark Buchanan dazzled in the midfield as West
Footscray beat Parkside by 25 points at Shorten Reserve.
The Roosters slammed on the last four goals of the game after the Magpies got to within a point at
the 22-minute mark.
Former Airport West (via Werribee) star Buchanan was an early favourite for the Barry Priest Medal,
the first division's equivalent of the Brownlow Medal.
Parkside coach John Barbuto lamented the last minute loss of full-forward Brendan Bidwell, who
kicked a match-winning eight goals on debut in the previous round.
"I was told at 8.30 on Friday night," he said. "Frankston picked him (in the VFL). They don't pick him
and he plays for us."

In round five Parkside won battle against arch-rival Port Colts.
Full-forward Harold Kelly kicked six goals as Parkside stormed back into the top five by beating Port
Melbourne Colts by 24 points at the Merv Hughes Oval.
Coach John Barbuto praised Kelly's "accountability when he didn't have the ball".
"He worked real hard — his second efforts were first class," he said.
Michael Tartaglia shone for Parkside again, and Jason Smith had plenty of the footy in his first game
back with the club.

Reigning premiers Parkside beat Yarraville by 36 points at Yarraville Oval.
Livewire forward Harold Kelly (three goals) continued his splendid form for the Magpies.
He received valuable support from Jed Pinkney (three goals).
Parkside coach was delighted after the match expressing his optimistic outlook for the rest of the
2001 season.
“First-year Parkside coach, John Barbuto, has high ambitions for the Magpies after another strong
win last week over Yarraville.
