P. 18
Hello, my name is Iziegbe Omoruyi and I am 47 years old. I was born in
Nigeria. I grew up with my grandparents instead of my parents. I am going to
tell you why education is important and vital by telling you my life story.
When I was a little girl, I always helped my grandparents. They never knew
what education was, so I was always busy doing farm work rather than
school work. Soon I decided to leave school so that I could help my
grandparents more.
Many, many years later, I grew up and realised I was taking the wrong path
but I couldn’t go back because I was too afraid.
When I had my children, I made sure that they concentrated on their work.
Whenever they came back from school, they would read their books and do
their homework. Now, they are the best in their classes.
Soon I plucked up the courage and the confidence to go back to school.
When I got there, I told the teacher that I could not read and write and I was
afraid. My English teacher, Saliha, encouraged me and now I have
confidence in myself and I am still improving.
Everyone who can’t read and write, go to an adult education college and
try your best. Without education, it is like a part of your body has been cut
off. YOU CAN DO IT!
