Page 16 - Producing a Video to Communicate a New Model of Coaching to GAA Coaches
P. 16
Personal Purpose
On a personal level I have a deep interest in visual media and in video as a medium for
communication and education, while professionally in my role as Technical
Development & Support Manager for the GAA I am responsible for the management of
the ‘GAA Learning’ website and the production of eLearning and multimedia resources
for coaches. To produce a resource then that is a manifestation of the values of the
Association and reflects the essence of what it means to be a GAA coach is my
professional challenge. This work will also support the development of my personal
video production competency and the various skills required.
I want to create something that helps coaches to improve their understanding of their
practice, the production of which not only supports greater understanding among those I
will collaborate with, but also serves to develop my personal and professional
relationship with them; all the while opening up to me a greater understanding of my
own practice and processes.
1.3 Significance of the Research
10
My video is titled ‘An Introduction to Effective Coaching – the Coach Model’. It will
10
be used as a stand-alone resource to communicate the ‘Coach ’ model and be freely
accessible to GAA Coaches and the public on the GAA Learning website and Youtube
channel. It will also form a key resource in our renewed Coach Education Programme
and initially as a resource used in the pilot of a revised Coach Education Award 2 level
course.
My vision is to produce a video that not only informs the viewer of the components of
the model and how they relate to each other, but does so by communicating some of the
applied knowledge of a ‘real’ coach through the story of their experience; I want the
viewer to connect to those experiences that are common and familiar to them, providing
them with a context for reflection on their current understanding of coaching, their own
practice and how it aligns to this new model.
I hope that this Action Research enquiry will be a significant milestone for me in my
personal journey to live and act in harmony with my values through the development
