Chapter 3 - Methodology

                        3.1 Introduction
In this chapter I describe the methodology and research approach I chose for this

study ‘The Development and Implementation of a Multimedia Resource to Help

Improve Parental Involvement in Their Child’s Reading Literacy During the
Primary School Years’. I discuss the reasons, reflections and thoughts that drove me

to undertake an Action Research approach. I aim to demonstrate how my choice for
a practice-based research is methodologically valid and has the rationality to

                        influence the thinking of others.

I will discuss how my research originally took the form of a workplace study that

later evolved into a self-study, resulting in a professional and personal
transformation. I present how the Educational Entrepreneurial Approach (EEA) to

action research (Crotty, 2014) is the most appropriate framework for this research

enquiry, how it best suits my professional context and personal perspective.

I then outline the data collection and analysis methods used. I discuss the new
knowledge created, the claims related to this information and the standards I

followed to ensure the rigour and validity of the knowledge claims. The chapter
concludes with the ethical issues I consider important for the validity and impact of

                        this research.

                        3.2 Methodology – Action Research

Research is a term that can be described as a creative and systematic body of work
that is undertaken in order to increase the collection of knowledge on humankind,

culture and society, and to devise new applications of available knowledge (OECD,

2015). According to Wilson (2014) it can be defined as a continuous process that
involves the collecting, recording, analysing and interpreting of information. The
