The action reflection cycles of plan, act, observe and reflect (Kemmis, McTaggart, &
Retallic, 2004) are still fundamental to the EEA approach, however, there are three
key characteristics that define the Educational Entrepreneurial Approach:
• Crotty (2014) discusses the growing importance of using multimodal
communications to connect, educate and inform as many people as possible,
a practice that is becoming more relevant as we move forward towards
immersing ourselves in the ever-growing digital media sphere. Jewitt (2008)
further supports this view by highlighting that the mode and media of how
knowledge is represented is a vital aspect of constructing knowledge. The
manner in which information is communicated and presented shape both
what is to be learned and how to achieve this. This research approach
involves the researcher examining the use of multimodal communications
prior to the planning, designing, and creating of a multimedia resource to
enhance their workplace environment. Retaining this understanding, I set
about creating the ‘Parent Learning Zone’ which consists of short
demonstrative videos that aim to improve the reading skills of primary school
pupils by enhancing the involvement of their parents in their reading
homework. I will describe this process in greater detail in Chapter 4.
• The values of passion, creativity and excellence are at the core of the
Educational Entrepreneurial Approach. The researcher is encouraged to
discover and articulate their own educational values as they develop their
pedagogy of the unique (Farren, 2006). Crotty (2014) connects with the ideas
of Ken Robinson in that creativity involves doing something and may not
necessarily be for economic benefit (2001, p.115). Crotty (2014) refers to the
European Commission (2014) definition of Entrepreneurship and how it
helps people develop the skills, knowledge, and qualities necessary to
achieve the goals they set out for themselves. As per Reid Hoffman, co-
founder of LinkedIn, the most successful entrepreneurs are not motivated by
money. They are successful as they live in a permanent state of growth and
evolution, constantly developing, responding to new experiences and
