accepting this insight made my research process more practical and attainable.
During the Understand stage of the EEA, the researcher recognises how their talents
and skills can help improve their workplace in a practical manner. Throughout my
journey on the MEME programme, I developed my videography, multimedia and
creative skills that enhanced the creation of my resource the ‘Parent Learning Zone’.
At this point, I began to understand the commitment, motivation and time required to
create a quality resource. I gained a better understanding of how the literature
connects with my study and how I can draw upon it and develop it further to enhance
my research. This was achieved by understanding what has been done before in this
area or in a similar field of study and how I could use this knowledge within my own
study. During the Explore stage I was able to further understand my school’s
eLearning culture by listening to my work colleagues’ perspectives and potential
concerns. I understood there was a demand from our parents to provide them with
appropriate and meaningful resources that they could access outside of normal
school hours. I came to this conclusion by communicating with my work colleagues
and parents of the school via email, questionnaires and conversations. By assessing
our eLearning practice within the school, I affirmed that we were not sharing
teaching resources and best practice videos with our school community. I understood
that this area of concern could be resolved by using an interactive multimedia
resource accessible through an online communicative space such as our school
website.

Once I understood how to improve the area in need of change within my school, I
then secured approval from the DCU (Dublin City University) Faculty Ethics
Review Panel. I began the process of designing and creating an innovative
multimedia resource with the aim of implementing it through our school website.
The resource the ‘Parent Learning Zone’ contains a collection of best practice videos
that guide and support the parents when reading with their child. The design and
creation stage took approximately 4-5 months to complete, throughout which
organised group validation meetings took place to ensure our research and
multimedia resources were rigorously tested for comprehensibility, truthfulness,
authenticity and appropriateness (Crotty, 2014). These meetings were designed to
allow the researchers to speak openly about their developments and obstacles with
