main subjects in the recording of the videos due to her vast knowledge of the reading

The use of animated video combined with digital video throughout the ‘Parent

Learning Zone’ was visually engaging and reduced the number of pupil and adult
                        participants needed for filming.

                        3.4.2 Data Collection Methods

In this section, I will describe the various types of data collection methods I used to
assist me in answering my research question. I primarily used a qualitative method

of research, a method commonly used for action research, to examine real life issues

in the workplace with the aim of applying practical solutions to help resolve these
                        problems.

McNiff & Whitehead (2002) categorise data-collection techniques into three groups,
paper and pen techniques (diaries, journals and questionnaires), live techniques

(interview, think-aloud sessions, discussions) and ostensive techniques (slide
presentations, audio and video recordings). My research utilised all three techniques

whilst relying significantly on data collection methods such as email

correspondence, think-aloud sessions, questionnaires and personal reflective
journals. I also undertook some quantitative research methods using Google

Analytics to measure the user traffic of the ‘Parent Learning Zone’. After a six

month implementation period, I will begin recording the reading test results of the
pupils to measure if there has been an improvement. I will now discuss the data

                        collections methods in greater detail.

                        Email
During the creation and development phase of my multimedia resource, I

corresponded via email with my co-workers, college peers and supervisors to assess

and evaluate the effectiveness of the resource. I welcomed both positive and
constructive feedback and considered all recommendations they should put forward

in order to enhance the validity and rigour of my work. I also emailed a
questionnaire to the parents of our school, gathered data relating to their reading and

homework routines with their children, their views on the interactive reading videos
