Chapter 4 – Implementation
4.1 Introduction
In this chapter I describe the development and implementation of my multimedia
resource to help improve parental involvement in their child’s reading literacy. I
detail the design, creation and implementation stages of my multimedia resource the
‘Parent Learning Zone’. I will now present the findings and analysis of my research
using my chosen methodological approach, The Educational Entrepreneurial
Approach to action research (Crotty, 2014), under the headings of Explore,
Understand and Create. I begin with an exploration of my own values and the
eLearning culture of my workplace, referring to the literature related to this field of
study.

As discussed in Chapter 3, the EEA approach encourages the researcher to discover
and articulate their own educational values and passions that they will use to guide
them throughout their research process. As I affirmed in Chapter 1, my values are
creativity, collaboration and excellence. Creativity is an important part of my core
value as a teacher. I promote creative behaviours within my classroom even if they
have the potential for unwanted side-effects such as classroom noise and disruption
(Moran, 2010, p. 336; Scott, 1999). Creativity involves cognitive processes that help
pupils develop their own understanding of the world around them. It allows them to
become creative thinkers, forming unique ideas and solutions to problems while
knowing that there is success in failure. As Sir Ken Robinson states ‘Many highly
talented, brilliant, creative people think they’re not - because the thing they were
good at school wasn’t valued, or was actually stigmatised (Robinson, 2006).’ In
order for my own research to materialise into something beneficial for our parent
community, I had to use my newly acquired skills to create a unique solution to an
existing problem in my workplace. This was accomplished by first establishing the
current eLearning culture of my school. To do so, I adopted the NCTE (National
Centre for Technology in Education) roadmap (Figure 4.1) as a guideline to
