I began to understand that creating and sharing demonstrative videos with the
school community on a learning platform would be the first step to enhancing
parental involvement and cultivating a more progressed eLearning culture. I was
aware of the level of commitment needed to produce a series of videos of a high
standard that will appeal to both the parent, pupil and teacher. Although I was
confident filming and editing videos, I found this challenge quite daunting as it
was the first time my work would be scrutinised by a much larger audience. My
value of excellence motivated me to produce a resource of a high standard to
help educate our pupils and parents. I took into account Epstein’s (2001)
‘Overlapping Spheres of Influence’ model where the family, school, and community
work together for the interest of the child. It was my goal to provide a learning
platform for the parents so that a similar level of reading literacy would be
reproduced at home. Crotty (2014) also emphasises the importance of using
multimodal communications to connect, educate and inform as many people as
possible.
After reviewing the suggestions from my colleagues, my reflective journals, and
assessing my technical capabilities, I discussed some of the following questions with
my research supervisor Yvonne, via Skype calls, emails, and Facebook Group:
• Is there an identified need for this video within my workplace?
