Table 4.1 Comparing average video duration rate
Once I decided upon an appropriate video length, I arranged the seven videos
beginning with the Introduction video that informs the viewer of the purpose of this
eLearning resource; the benefits and components of successful reading. The
succeeding videos are segmented using the five main components of reading –
Phonics, Vocabulary, Comprehension, Fluency and Motivation. I included an
additional seventh video to demonstrate the use of intonation, expression,
questioning, speed and pace. These reading techniques are mentioned in the Fluency
video, however, their importance as valuable reading techniques merited their own
separate video. The parents can learn and practice these reading techniques and
strategies with their child at home. I will now briefly explain the purpose and aim of
each video:
1. Introduction - this video begins by informing the viewer/parent of the
purpose of this eLearning resource; the benefits of reading aloud with their
child at home and the time our school recommends for reading homework.
This 24 second video was created using animation software and portrays
parents reading with their child. A voice-over narration accompanies all of
the videos and details useful reading techniques, best practice and explains
ways in which parents can get involved in their child’s reading experience.
