understand our school’s eLearning status. This roadmap was developed by the PDST
(Professional Development Service of Teachers) in Ireland. My school would be
considered ‘e-Confident’ in most areas, and ‘e-Mature’ in a small number of other
areas.

For our school to start involving the parent community more in their children's
education we needed to make a number of progressive changes such as
providing online access to learning resources, best practice videos and other
essential information through the use of multimedia and engaging technology. It
was evident that our school was not disseminating and sharing teaching
resources that could potentially enhance parental involvement and improve pupil
progress (Figure 4.2). I reflected on how we as teachers regularly ask parents to
assist in their child’s homework, without supplying them with the necessary
knowledge and tools. Sharing of good practice to and beyond our own school
community is vital and this could be incorporated using our school website or a
content management system that would allow a communicative space where the
teachers and parents can access learning material and communicate with each
other where necessary.
