          FIRST 1L STUDENT WELCOME

          RECEPTION AT CMBA

On September 13, the CMBA welcomed a big crowd of first year law students from
Case Western Reserve Law School and Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. Under the
leadership of CMBA President Marlon Primes, we worked with both law schools to
develop and launch this new welcoming reception at the CMBA. We are grateful to
Dean Michael Scharf and Dean Lee Fisher who opened the reception with remarks,
along with President Primes and Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Foundation President
Stephanie Trudeau. The reception provided students the opportunity to
mingle among themselves, to meet members of Cleveland’s legal
community, and to learn more about the CMBA and our other
area bars of color. We were very pleased with the turnout as
our crowd numbered 120 participants. It was a great evening
of conversation and we look forward to
        engaging law students from both
        schools in future programs of
        mutual interest.

                                           SEPTEMBER HOT TALK

Our September 11 Hot Talk featured a discussion on then-
Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. We welcomed
Jonathan Adler, from CWRU School of Law, and Doron Kalir,
a professor from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. The
discussion was moderated by Cleveland Municipal Court
magistrate, and constitutional law scholar, Willam Vodrey. It
was a lively discussion on Kavanaugh’s qualifications and what
the Court may look like with him as a member.
