A person with strong business acumen will be able to make sound judgments and create business
strategies, which lead to better business success. Business acumen can be thought of as a collection of
vital skills. Some of these skills are hard skills you can learn and practice formally through training, like the
ability to communicate, listen, and know when to ask the right questions. Business acumen also requires
soft skills that rely on behavior, including the ability to motivate others to act, being aware of personal and
professional dynamics in the office, and having a keen perception of issues and opportunities.
An employee with business acumen understands and can communicate effectively about the strategic,
operational, and financial goals of their company. Research is telling us that it is no longer enough to
simply know IT. To be successful and progress within the IT space, you need to also possess strong
business skills. This is a topic that is often overlooked, but could make a huge impact on your career in IT.
Polish these skills, among others, with MILTON.
