17. MODERN TECHNOLOGY.
( a ) KNOW WHAT MODERN EQUIPMENT IS USED FOR PROVIDING
INFORMATION AND ENTERTAINMENT.
Most homes have television sets, video recorders, stereo set with radio, tape
decks, CD players, record turntables and speakers. These all provide
entertainment.
For information we can use the radio and
television. We also have telephones, fax machines and
computers, which store and retrieve information fed into
them. The computers when connected to the telephone
can “Speak” to other computers just like a telephone
showing the message on the monitor. You can also
access the “Internet” which is like having a library in your
computer.
( b ) PREPARE A SCRAPBOOK OR A POSTER FROM
PAPER CLIPPINGS OF SOME OF THE MODERN
EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE IN THE BAHAMAS. DISPLAY
THIS AT YOUR PACK MEETING AND TELL THE PACK
WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED IN PREPARING THE
SCRAPBOOK OR POSTER.
Look in the local newspapers, TV Guide and Advertisement Flyers given
out by the stores selling modern equipment. Make up a scrapbook or poster by
cutting out pictures and details. Plan out your work in a neat manner and do not just
stick the items anywhere.
18. HISTORY, LAW AND PROMISE.
( a ) FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE LIFE OF THE FOUNDER OF THE SCOUT
MOVEMENT, LORD BADEN-POWEL AND TELL AKELA WHAT YOU HAVE
LEARNED.
Have you read “Scouting for Boys” or the original book for Cub Scouts which
was called “The Wolf Cub's Handbook?” Check in the Public Library, talk to Akela
and other leaders and take notes.
Write your notes neatly and present to Akela.
